General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

On May 25, 2018, the European Union (EU) will begin to enforce a new data protection regulation called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens' data privacy and to reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. This site overviews the steps we are taking and helps address questions you might have about GDPR and Nexus Home Technology Systems Limited.

What is GDPR?

The European Union (EU) is enforced a new data protection regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation or Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens' data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

Who does the GDPR impact?

The GDPR applies to organizations located within the EU in addition to organizations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, EU natural persons or 'data subjects.' It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the EU, regardless of the company's location.

Steps to comply with GDPR

We are actively working to address GDPR compliance for all our EU resident users. As we approach the May 25, 2018 enforcement date, Nexus Home Technology Systems Limited is:

  • Mapping an overview of all our systems to document the use of personal data.
  • Introducing an updated Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy that reflects our notice obligations under the GDPR.
  • Reviewing and revising our vendor agreements and implementing new processes to address the GDPR sub-processor requirements.
  • Making technical changes to our platform that will enable us to support the GDPR's requirements and enhanced data subject rights.

Demonstrate compliance with GDPR

We are fully committed to achieving compliance with the GDPR by the May 25, 2018 enforcement date. Nexus Home Technology Systems Limited is conducting internal assessments and evaluating our readiness to execute on our obligations under the GDPR.

Security and Data Retention

We take steps to protect your information from unauthorised access and against unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage. We will keep your information for a reasonable period or as long as the law requires.

Where you have chosen a password which allows you to access certain parts of the Site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We advise you not to share your password with anyone. Unless we negligently disclose your password to a third party, we will not be liable for any unauthorised transactions entered into using your name and password.

The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will take steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to the Site; any transmission is at your own risk. We use Secure Socket Layers (SSL) to encrypt all information you provide before sending it to hosting servers. SSL is the industry standard and the best software available for secure ecommerce transactions.

Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

What constitutes personal data as part of GDPR?

Any information related to a data subject that can be used to directly or indirectly identify the person, according to the GDPR. It can be anything from a name, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, or medical information.

Personal data collection

When you fill out registration forms, when you buy any items / products / services, fill out contactus form, or proactively provide us with other personal information, we collect that information. For example, to create an account we ask only for an email address and password. In other circumstances, such as when you complete a form related to a particular service offering or delivery an item, we may ask you to provide other information, which may include your name, phone number, and/or postal address.

In addition, your device is automatically providing information to us so we can respond and customise our response to you. This generally includes technical information about your computer, such as your IP address or other device identifier, the type of device you use, and operating system version etc. It may also include usage information and information associated with your interaction with Nexus Home Technology Systems Limited. For example, when you search for an item, we store the search details (if available).
